Olufolakemi “Fola” Olusanya is a Biology major with a double minor in Chemistry and Psychology from Tampa, Florida. She hopes to earn a PhD in microbiology after graduation. Her main interests are microbiology and genetics, and she currently works in the Thompson lab on Howard’s campus studying gene regulation in E. coli. Olusanya chose a career in STEM because of her lifetime love for science, as well as a desire to see more people that look like her working in science. During her time at Howard, she has had the opportunity to work in a microscopy lab as a summer intern at the University of South Florida, studying the proteins involved in bacterial cell division. She hopes to inspire young black students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
